Pryer San Diego Set to Flee Country

Published by Pryer San Diego at 10:46 pm under Travels

Colombia, which was once considered off limits for tourists, was second only to Peru and Costa Rica in tourism growth for 2009. Cities like Medellin and Cartagena are gaining international recognition for their awesomeness, and you can get your scuba diving certification in Santa Marta cheaper then you can anywhere else on the planet. Still though, The FARC and ELN guerilla movements are active and control large parts of the country. This makes Colombia the ultimate South American adventure.

after the jump a list of things I plan to do in Colombia.

1. Stayed at the famed Platypus Hostal at 6,ooo feet elevation in Bogota, Colombia’s capital city.

2. Hike through Villa de La Leyva, the completely preserved colonial town founded in 1572.

3. Whitewater raft the class 5 rapids of rio fonce in San Gil.

4. Eat “Hormigas Culonas” Fried Ants in Bucargamanga.

5. Get scuba certified in Santa Marta for $200.

6. Make the four day trek to “Ciudad Perdida” The lost City deep in the jungle of the north coast.

7. Eat strange food from street venders on the coastal city of Baranquilla.

8. See what all the fuss is about in Cartagena, Colombia’s number 1 tourist destination.

9. Give Pablo Escobar’s final resting place my own personal salute in Medellin, once the world’s most dangerous city and drug producing capital.

10. Visit the various guerilla movements in the Darien Gap, Colombia’s border with Panama where there are no roads and many interesting characters.

11. Conduct recorded interviews for dontpry.com with leaders of various guerilla movements.

12. Start the Free Pryer San Diego Drive where readers can donate money for my release from said guerrilla party. (You will be able to chose which movement your money goes to.)

13. Head into Equador to recover and maybe hit the Galapagos Islands, just for good measure.

14. Return to Bogota to fly back to Boston if not already married with children.
